Transportation

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the nearest major airport to the University of Washington.

There are several options for transport to the university. The cheapest is the LINK light rail, which will take you from the airport to the university in about an hour for $3.25. (Note that the UW station is a 20 minute walk from the U-district hotels!) Lyft and Uber can get you to the university in 30-45 minutes depending on traffic for about $40, and a taxi will run upwards of $60.

In addition to these options, around campus you will find many “dockless” bike-share bikes from Lime and Jump (Uber). These can be quite convenient for short trips; note that the Burke-Gilman Trail runs directly by the Physics and Astronomy Building as well as the Stadium LINK station and can take you to Ballard (to the west) or the University Village area (to the northeast).

The Astronomy Department has a (slightly dated) Visitor Info page which also has useful information.

Hotel Information

Seattle hotels are relatively pricey. The nearest hotels are in the University District, but you could also consider staying downtown and taking the LINK light rail to campus. AirBNB options are also widely available.

A small (10-room) block has been reserved at the Watertown Hotel at $189/night with waived amenity and parking fees. You can reserve by calling +1 (866) 866-7977 and referencing the “ZTF Collaboration Meeting”, or by using this link (code ZTFCOLAB19). Please reserve by August 2. If you’d like to come earlier or stay later than Sept. 2-5 at the group rate you’ll need to call.

The astronomy department has rate agreements with two local hotels, although these may not be better than the rate you find online.

  • At the Silver Cloud Hotel (25 minute walk/10 minute bike ride to the Physics & Astronomy Building): $236.36 for a room with 2 queen size beds, and $190.74 for a room with a king size bed. Call +1 (206) 526-5200 and request the “Astronomy rate for IP.”
  • At the Watertown Hotel (15 minute walk to the Physics and Astronomy Building): $320 for a room with 2 queen size beds, and $297.97 for a room with a king size bed. Call +1 (206) 826-4242 and request the “UW Astronomy Rate.”
